Created by Norwegian students, this is one of the best things I have ever seen. Watch, laugh and ponder.
It leads on from my recent musings on twitter about this One Laptop Per Child story which I thought though well intentioned was somewhat patronising. Ethiopia is home to some of the oldest manuscripts in the world so I find it hard to believe the children had never seen ANY written words. In recent years, I’ve yet to find anywhere where there isn’t at least one person with a mobile phone so they would have some concept of how to use the tech too. Frankly, I wasn’t in the least surprised at the children’s hunger to learn, ingenuity and all-round smarts.
Imagine if an unmarked box of electrical equipment without instructions was dumped in the middle of a town in America – wouldn’t that be considered a high-level security alert. The Ethiopians should send a box of books to the Kardashians, film their reaction and see if they figure out what to do.
