Mardi Gras, Sleek Lip4 palette. From top left clockwise: Rio, Carnival, Masquerade, Firework

As you know I’m a purple lip lover so when I spotted the Mardi Gras Sleek lip palette I only had eyes for the gorgeous mesmerising purple (Rio). I would never have chosen the rest of the colours but have ended up being very pleasantly surprised when I’ve worn them recently as part of #100lippydays

As you can see from the picture above, the swatches shown on the Sleek packaging look nothing like the actual product (do wish makeup companies would read my lipstick lessons). Also note that Carnival and Masquerade look quite different under the surface layer.

  • Rio: bright violet in matte finish – unfortunately I found this to be rather patchy on application. It wears down to a hot pink colour that stains lips for what seems like forever – it does not rub off easily. I love the colour though and paired with one of my other purples I can live with the application issues. Rio looks great mixed with Carnival from the Mardi Gras palette
  • Carnival: fuchsia in a pigmented glossy finish like a liquid lipstick. This was a surprise – I would never in a million years have gone for this colour but absolutely loved it on the lips – really nice texture, comfortable and a fab pop of colour. It also wore really well and was great as a stain on less bold days.
  • Masquerade: neon Barbie pink in same pigmented glossy finish as Carnival – not a fan of this colour on me at all but sure this would rock the world of many
  • Firework: coral in a satin finish – this colour and texture grew on me – I liked it as a stain.

There is a small lip brush included which I promptly lost. Overall I was mostly impressed with the pigmentation and quality of the products in the lip palette, especially for the price. Slightly annoyingly this palette is only available online, though a few of the other Sleek Lip4 palettes are available in-store at Superdrug.
