GOSH Sea Buckthorn Lip Oil Review

I am an unrepentant oil junkie. Every single day, I use oils of some form from head to toe. Until very recently however, the one body part that had not been anointed were my lips. This year seems to be turning in to the year of the Lip Oil. Every time I pop in to a beauty hall, a new one has been launched.

The first budget version I’ve seen is the new GOSH COPENHAGEN Lip Oil so I was keen to put it to the test. In my opinion, Danish makeup brand, GOSH is one of the best quality drugstore brands. Think NARS goes Superdrug.

There are four different shades available but though they look bright in the tube, when applied the  tint is so sheer they add barely any colour to my lips. The difference is in the scent and taste.  The oils are paraben-free, mineral-oil free, vegan friendly with ingredients including safe synthetics alongside argan, moringa, macadamia, sea buckthorn and raspberry seed oils. All sounds  super nourishing so my lips were screaming come to mama.

The GOSH lip oil texture is slightly thicker than an oil, not quite a gel. The sea buckthorn version smells strongly of sea buckthorn (I’ve been drinking a lot of sea buckthorn juice recently so am very familiar with this super fruit). Applied just like a gloss, the oil sinks in to the lips rather than sitting on the surface like a balm, and my lips felt immediately soothed.

However the hydrating sensation didn’t last very long and within about an hour my lips felt dry. Applying the oil two to three times a day, within two weeks the tube was finished, so not actually that budget friendly.

As a product to keep my pout moisturised, the GOSH Lip Oils didn’t quite deliver. However used on top of lip products, I loved the pretty, dewy finish that looks more sophisticated than full on gloss. If you think of these as a lip balm then you’ll be disappointed, but as a makeup item it’s a winner.
