Happy Valentine’s Day!

Now you know that for me roses are for life not just Valentine’s Day. As I have mentioned many a time I completely adore the scent of roses. So I thought I would share a gorgeous natural perfume I’ve been wearing for a couple of years now.

Haeckels is an artisan brand I discovered when I stumbled in to their Shoreditch pop up a few years ago. One sniff of this fragrance and it had to be mine so I treated myself one birthday! The brand itself is based and made in the seaside town of Margate. Sustainability is a big focus with great care and attention given to the environment, ingredient sourcing and production process.

And the award for the perfume with the trickiest name in the world to say goes to…….. To be fair to Haeckels though the wooden box the perfume comes in has the GPS above, on the website the perfume is kindly called Dreamland / GPS 23’ 5”N.

Packaging is in a wooden box, apothecary style amber glass bottle with metal lid. Nearly all recyclable aside from the spritz tube. I understand that they are working on developing a new material made from mushrooms that is completely compostable. Loving how seriously they’re taking that.

Dreamland is part of Haeckel’s GPS collection, featuring fragrances inspired by and created from ingredients discovered at a specific GPS location.  Dreamland was originally an 19th century amusement park in the centre of Margate, which fell in to disrepair when its famous wooden roller coaster burnt down.

Of Dreamland, Haeckels say:

“To experience this location is to walk around this monumental disused ride, itself a victim of arson, with the scent of burnt wood and charred leather surrounding you to then find yourself at the back of the site where there was once the ornamental gardens. The fragrance of the burnt ride gives way instead to the Victorian roses that are still growing where they were originally planted and have seen the amusement park in its journey from popularity to demolition and finally now to a resurrection as the remaining burnt ride is restored.”

HAECKELS DREAMLAND PERFUME INGREDIENTS: Pogostemon Cablin Leaf oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia Fruit oil, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract, Vetiveria Zizanoides Root oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf oil, Pelargonium Graveolens oil, Parfum

Haeckels Dreamland perfume review

To me Dreamland is in serious nuzzle inducing territory. Woody, worn leather with powdery rose fluttering by. It is not a ‘girly’ rose at all and though unisex (as all perfumes are!) this scent I think in a traditional store would be in the men’s section. If you are looking for a fresh garden rose scent this probably won’t be for you. If you don’t mind a sexy rose with a few thorns then it will.

Haeckels has also launched a skincare range which I haven’t yet explored. Have you tried anything from the collection?
