Happy New Year! (better late than never eh). Last January I was lucky enough to spend in Jamaica so it seems fitting to be talking about a Jamaican legend this January. Especially one that I have been lucky enough to visit his home in Kingston and birthplace in the Blue Mountains. I’m talking, of course, about the icon Bob Marley.

I am a massive Bob Marley fan. His incredible music has been around for my entire life and has been the soundtrack throughout my childhood and onwards so when I heard that the first biopic was in the works, I knew I had to see it. It’s out on Valentine’s Day. Not gonna lie I’m a little nervous about how he is going to be portrayed, but knowing the Marley family is involved and that the amazing Lashana Lynch is playing Rita Marley has made me let out a big sigh of relief. And the casting of Bob himself? Kingsley Ben-Adir as the legendary musician.

In the meantime, there is a pop-up next to Tottenham Court road station where you can catch some vibes. The BOB MARLEY: One Love Pop Up is popping up at The Outernet, Charing Cross Road from now until February 3rd, 2024, fans will have the chance to get their hands on exclusive merchandise including limited edition clothing, Bob Marley vinyl ), and Marley coffee.

Bob Marley was introduced to Rastafarianism by Rita and like all Rastas had a profound respect for nature. The first plant-based eaters I ever met were Jamaican Rastas so I’m pretty sure that if Bob Marley was still here he’d be all about that green and sustainable life.
As Bob himself once said, “In this bright future, you can’t forget your past.” I’m looking forward to seeing the movie and will report back.

What’s your favourite Bob Marley song? Mine changes, today it’s Redemption Song.
The Bob Marley: One Love pop-up until February 3 between 11am – 8pm at Outernet London, Charing Cross Road, WC2H 8LH. For more info visit: OneLoveMovie.com
