Cosmetics A La Carte is an “insiders” secret where those in the know go for tailor made makeup. To celebrate its 40th anniversary this year, there’s currently a great little exhibition curated by Ryan Lanji, Colour & Couture, to remind you of its heritage, influence and innovation in the makeup world.

The go to boutique for makeup artists and the A-list, its client list has included beauty icons like Princess Di, Elizabeth Taylor, Debbie Harry and Grace Jones to Madonna to Lady Gaga. It was fascinating to learn that after the divorce, Prince Charles still continued to pick up her makeup tab there!

Cosmetics A La Carte was the first British brand to produce foundation for Black skin colours and remain trailblazers on that front. Since launching in 1973,  all its products are manufactured at a factory in Battersea so the brand truly is ‘Best of British’.

The ‘Colour & Couture’ exhibition is on from 22 – 26 May 2013 at: The Gallery, 50 Redchurch Street, London E2 7DP

Cosmetics A La Carte, 19b Motcombe Street, Knightsbridge, London SW1 x8LB
