Great Cocktails in London: Cocktail O’Clock

It was London Cocktail Week recently which made me realise how much I personally would prefer a London Cocktail Life. Oh well you can’t have everything. In any case, here’s a selection of the best concoctions I’ve imbibed recently.

What: Blue Rinse (blue curacao, tequila, lavender and lemon juice)
Why: Er it’s blue! (seriously the first blue drink I’ve had since I was about 12)
Where: Shrimpy’s, Kings Cross, London N1C 4UR

What: Kyz Kuu (Kiss The Girl) (vodka, Calvados, lemon, lemongrass, ginger and honey syrup topped with a pear, Sauvignon Blanc and Ardbeg whiskey foam)
Why: I first tasted this judging cocktails for the 2012 UK Snow Queen Vodka Competition. The complex yet light flavours made it my favourite and it was the overall winner. Lounge Lover is worth a peek for the eye-popping interior.
Where: Lounge Lover, Shoreditch, London E1 6JU

What: Hibiscus Frozen Margarita
Why: I like this spot on Compton Street for hanging out in the late afternoon on weekends. The margaritas, whatever the flavour of the day is, normally something fruity, just hit the spot.
Where: Cafe at La Bodega Negra, Soho, London W1D 5JF

What: Soho (chilli infused Pisco, elderflower liqueur, cucumber, lime, egg white and cracked pepper)
Why: The hot barman recommended it. This is the first bar in Europe dedicated to Pisco, the national drink of Peru, so they should know their stuff.
Where: Pisco Bar, Ceviche, Soho, London W1D 4RG

What: Pisco Punch (Pisco, Chartreuse, honey water, apricot liquer, papaya infusion, pineapple, Angostura bitters, spices)
Why: Recently voted Food and Travel Reader Awards 2012 Bar of the Year as well as Tales of the Cocktail Spirited 2012 World’s Best Cocktail Bar, expectations are high. Located at the 5* Connaught, it goes without saying that this is not the place to come for “happy hour” cheap drinks. The service is impeccable with the highest quality ingredients used. Where else do you get a complimentary pre cocktail cocktail! In short you get what you pay for.
Where: The Connaught Bar, Mayfair, London W1K 2AL

What: Lychee Martini
Why: The best Lychee martini I’ve had anywhere – they use fresh not tinned which makes a big difference. I should get a commission for each time I’ve recommended this to someone.
Where: Sanderson Hotel, Fitzrovia, London W1T 3NG

What: Beetroot Mojito
Why: I’ve recently fallen in love with beetroot and have never seen it on a cocktail menu before so when I spotted this on a recent trip to Miami, I had to give it a try. It would be rude to resist a mojito in Miami and when combined with nutrient rich beetroot, how could I say no?
Where: Sugarcane Raw Bar, Midtown, Miami
