London Shopping Heaven: Selfridges Beauty Workshop

I hate buying beauty products in department stores. Terrible lighting, being attacked by perfume sprayers and snooty assistants with Drag Queen makeup that either pounce or blank you make it my idea of hell. I tend to buy make-up online, abroad or at Space NK.  Having long and repeatedly lamented the lack of Sephora in the UK. The feeling is entirely one sided as they never respond to my pleas. In any case two recent openings, BeautyMart at Harvey Nicks (which I’ll come to on another day) and Selfridges Beauty Workshop  have got me going C-Lo style “Forget You Sephora”.

The new 5,000 square foot space seems to the answers to my prayers, selling products as well as offering treatments. Hats off to the buying team who’ve curated a great mix of 50 different brands including tried and tested names, niche gems like Ellis Faas and Aesop and buzzy brands like BioEfffect and Astalift as well as those like Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics that I’ve only seen online before.  Most importantly the staff leave you alone to play.  It’s pretty much like dying and going to beauty product heaven.

*There’s this fab offer with a 20% discount storewide, 10% off on beauty, fragrance and wine. Valid until Sunday 25th November 2012.
